Thought for the Week: True Freedom

What is true freedom?  It’s when I am standing in the fire of temptation and I decide to choose virtue over vice, right over wrong, good over evil.  By remaining in Christ and His Word, I am able to grow in true freedom.  This week, I will use my freedom to choose holiness rather than sin.

This word “FREEDOM” seems to be everywhere for me this Lent…actually started back in January. I keep going back to Galatians 5:1 and also to a scene from the movie ‘Of Gods and Men.’ In it, the radicals arrive at the monastery and insist that they will go inside to speak to the monks. When the Abbot refuses, the radical leader tells him that he has no choice. Brother Christian responds, “I ALWAYS have a choice.” In the past few months, those are particularly poignant based on some situations in which I have found myself! Thanks for your PRACTICAL suggestions for growing in the spiritual life. This soul is grateful as she walks toward professing final vows in a few years (God-willing).
